Chesapeake Cruise as recalled by Richard Watterson - 3 ... |
We departed Tangier in OK
winds only to have
them drop to nothing halfway across.
Dick and Jane started rowing. ... |
Jim and Linda farmed out
as crew on the solo
boats on this day. Here is Jim aboard André's boat MAG. Linda joined Tony. ... |
Glassy water and fair
weather cumulus above
land. ... |
André and his Honda
to the rescue! ... |
Dick
finds some wind and proceeds down
the east side of Watts to the rendezvous point ... |
Notice the end of the
branch that extends up
appears to be a streak of lightning coming
out
of this cloud. ... |
I
tried
to line this up so it would appear as if lightning was
striking Blue
Mist, but couldn't get the timing and
perspective right. ... |

Tony, it's
crab picking! ... |
Notice
Dick's
radar
reflector in
the background. It shows
up well in other
pictures, too. |
Let's see: cheese, olives
stuffed with
anchovies, multigrain snacks and beer.
All part of a well-balanced cruise diet. ... |
These crabs were obtained
at Tangier the
previous evening. A local
gentleman
described by Milton Parks later as "someone who can be
trouble, not
that
he is
trouble, but he has
been to jail" went down the
dock asking if
anyone wanted crabs in exchange for beer. Jim
and LInda took him up on his offer. He
left to
cook the crabs and delivered them a little later. He
appeared to be in a lot of pain when he
returned. He explained that the chain had broken on
his bike while he
was standing
up on the pedals and umm, I leave the rest to your
imagination as to
what was
injured. His last comment
was
"... so much for my unborn children".
He cheered up quite a bit after receiving his
payment. He took the cans
out of the paperboard
container put them in his crab pot and discarded the
container into the
water.
