Subject: Upcoming W Expedition

Hi Al, thought you might interested in an upcoming expedition aboard Wayfarer 4610. We're heading to the Manicouagan reservoir, one the largest meteor impact sites on earth and also known as the "eye of quebec", to complete what we think will be the first circumnavigation under sail. There have been others with motor aux. sailboats, and sea kayaks, but none entirely sail/human powered (we'll be rowing through the calms). It's a spectacular setting, a wonderfully unique and remote, and should be an exciting remote expedition. My W Wind Shadow, had been terrifically outfitted for racing by the previous owner and we've been busily converting it to an expedition rig.  We expect to be about two weeks on the water, camping ashore. If you're interested, I'll send you a link to our website and will forward some photos when we have them.

Many thanks for all your W resources and advice.

Cheers,

Scott McDougall (W4610)

Terrific, Al, thanks. I'll send you the details in a few days. By the way, I'm pretty sure my membership has lapsed.  How can I (re)join?

Cheers,
S.

Hi Al, glad to hear from you. I don't know what happened - I tried to reach you a couple of times without success. Bad email at my end, probably.

The Eye project was a success! There's a video you can see at: http://vimeo.com/m/49280551

The next project I'm scouting for the boat is a circumnav of the Turneffe Atoll in Belize.

Thanks for the membership link. I'll rejoin thus evening.

Happy new year!
S.

... Yup, the video was shot on a GoPro Hero2, the stills on a Nikon DSLR. I produced the vid in iMovie. A fun project.

I leave tomorrow to scout the Belize trip. This one will be more deliberately promoted and published to raise awareness for the Turneffe Atoll Trust. The distance is roughly the same as manicouagan, but the experience will be very different. Camping on the leeward side will be a challenge; landing/launching will be the trick on the exposed side. We'll keep you posted on that.

Cheers,
S.
