Sailing with Jill Bruneau and her son, William, today, Uncle Al heads north
out of Cape Small Harbor into a light NW breeze on a lovely, warm day.

Cape Small Harbor is mistakenly called Small Point Harbor on the Hermit Island Campground map. This confused me since on the official chart, the water to the west of Hermit Island is also called Small Point Harbor. The confusion is cleared up in the chart above which I have copied with the kind permission of Curtis Rindlaub, author of the very fine Maine Coast Guide for Small Boats.

Cape Small Harbor: Part of Dick's and Tom's meticulous planning involved grabbing a week in which morning tides were (more or less) ebbing and thus helping us exit the harbor where the navigable channel is mostly narrow. Until the final day or so, the return entry was also helped by a flooding tide. Above, the strength of the outward flow is reflected by the moored boats which are "hanging" upwind.

Small Point Harbor, the area between Hermit Island and the two Wood Islands (to windward of our W's) makes an ideal spot
for us all to hang around and wait for everyone to make it out of the harbour.
