CYA Councillor of Honour, George Blanchard
has died
Canada
and the world of sailing lost a dear friend today. George Blanchard
passed away this morning, Friday March 11. As a young junior sailor, I knew George well. We
would often walk over to the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club (TS&CC)
and speak with him. Always giving
with his time and always keen to help, George was just one of those
special people in our sport.
I remember the evenings coming in late in my Laser, and he was just ahead or behind me sailing his Wayfarer and getting ready for the next big regatta and adventure. He was a fixture at TS&CC, the backbone and genesis of what makes that club one of our country's best examples of a sailing club that works.
His
contribution to the Wayfarer class will be a model for us all who work
at a class level. His inspiration to
TS&CC members and to us all will be missed. He was just one of
those people you liked from the get-go, respected for his drive and
celebrated for his enthusiasm and love of the sport.
George was an Honorary Commodore TS&CC/CWA and Honorary Life Member Boulevard Club. He was also a councillor of Honor of the Canadian Yachting Association. |
