Hi Al,

... I was just dropping you a line to let you know that George Gyngell sadly passed away on Saturday, March 9th after a fight with cancer.

As you know, George was a great character in the fleet, especially in the 1970’s and 80s.  He was the “crew of choice” for both Nick and Geoff Hodshon and was National Champion crew in (I think) 1977 .  He then renovated his own boat (aptly named The Waffler in light of his tendency to chat to everyone) which he  sailed with great success around the circuit for a number of years.

He was a great character, and one of the friendliest guys you could hope to meet.  I don’t know whether a brief note should be put on the website for those old Wayfarers who will recall him!

All the best

Mike Porter
