Wayfarer Worlds the fifth day of racing - 1 photos by Kim Bergevin to see more pics of W's leaving MSC on Saturday morning, click here |
Kevin Pegler (1071)
and Guy Hacon (8686) sail out into a typical Lake Ontario summer day. ... |
It is considerably
warmer (24C) than it has been for the past two days, and the land may
well be warming up enough to suck in a breeze off the lake. Certainly
there is more wind out here than there was near shore. ... |
A fine day on which to
tweak the various settings on your boat! ... |
Guy and Daniel (8686)
are doubtless hoping this race will be sailed. If it is, there will be
a second drop race, and the Bizarre team have exactly that
number of horrors (a 46th and a DNF from a pair of capsizes yesterday!)
that they would prefer to unload. If that happens, they will move ahead
of Uncle Al into 7th place in the standings unless Al can beat them by
eight places or more. And this looks ... ... |
... like just the kind
of day on which that kind of thing could happen - to anyone! ... |
Jeff and Barry Cox
have their main eased the required amount to make the upper batten parallel to the centreline of the boat, as most books recommend. ... |
Note that Ted and
Wendy Gadd (7699) are sailing with their rudder mostly up, which is OK
in light airs and gives him a better feel for helm, Ted points out. He
certainly went very fast on this day! ... |
While Robin has a nap
(an Uncle Al soul-mate, obviously!), Stewart has Finitor
gurgling along just nicely. ... |
Wendy and Wild
Billy and ... ... |
... Ted, of course, in fine light-air form. ... |
Michael McKechnie and
Simon Turner and Danegeld III cast a nice reflection on the
water. ... |
The ripples on the
water can be deceiving when one is looking for wind. Here, Alan Bell
and Gordon Reid have no ripples but do have a nice breeze blowing just above the water, as do ... ... |
... Bob and Scott
Kennedy. ... |
George Blanchard is
chauffeured out to the race by crew, Mike Codd. ... |
Old world politeness
as John Dowling raises his hat to the (good-looking) photographer. ... |
The wind remains light
and patchy as Marc Bennett perches on SHADES' leeward deck.
Just before this, Uncle Al sneaked up to the RC boat's transom and
kidnapped John Weakley's pith helmet. Having no desire to be scored
OCS, however, he returned the helmet without committing any of the
unspeakable acts several of us had had in mind for that helmet. ... |
Having just noticed
Kim, our photographer, Jesper Friis decides to answer his call of
nature a little later. Also overcome by modesty was Nick Seraphinoff
whose boat is conspicuously absent from these pre-start pictures while
his crew dealt with a more seriously urgent call from nature. Nick and
Joe were several minutes late for the start as a result. ... |
Wearing his Danish
flag hat with white hair attached is Søren Jensen while his crew uses the Mike Mac genoa as a modesty panel. ... |
Uncle Al (l) compares
notes with Richard ghosting along off SHADES' bow. ... |
Even Ian and Kevan ... ... |
... lounged a bit as
we waited for better wind. ... |
Toby Mace battens the
hatches in an attack of wishful thinking perhaps, as Rachael Rhodes is poised and ready to sail her usual fine race. |
