In
the photo below, Toby (l) has
just finished 2nd in the final race of the 2004 Wayfarer Worlds, and is
beginning a nice, relaxing run back to the Port Credit YC. 1. What rule of Part 2 of the RRS still affects him even
though he is no longer racing?
2. Why might this rule be very costly to break?
Answer:
1. Rule 24.1 warns: "If reasonably possible, a boat not racing
shall not interfere with a boat that is racing."
Thus it
behooves all of us to have some consideration for those still racing as
we head in munching on our sandwiches and swilling our beer.
2. The Two-Turns Penalty is not available if one breaks rule 24.1
because the Turns Penalty is only available as exoneration for a
"mistake" made "while racing" - see beginning
of rule 44.1.
