4. Facts found: With just under 2 minutes to go to her start, Brain Fade (port) forced Groovy Grockle (starboard) to alter course to avoid a collision. Groovy Grockle fulfilled the requirements of rule 61 by immediately hailing "Protest!", thereby clearly informing Brain Fade that she intended to protest. Brain Fade immediately sailed well clear of other boats and did penalty turns as outlined in rule 44.2.

Decision: Brain Fade broke rule 10 in Part 2 of the RRS. She was entitled to exonerate herself by doing an immediate Two-Turns Penalty since she did not cause serious damage, nor did she gain significant advantage. There was no need for Brain Fade to wait until after her start signal since rule 44.2 states that the penalty is to be taken "as soon after the incident as possible". Protest disallowed.
