46. Facts found:  Portly Porky rounded the windward mark on starboard tack in a light breeze.  Bearing away quickly onto a run, Portly Porky cut in front of Petulant Petunia who was approaching the mark on port less than two boatlengths from PP as shown on the left. Petulant Petunia luffed up about 20º for approximately 3 seconds to avoid a collision and then continued on around the mark. Petulant Petunia lodged a valid protest.

Ruling:  Portly Porky altered course but since Petulant Petunia was able to keep clear of Porky in a seamanlike manner, Portly Porky has not broken Rule 16, and the Petunia protest is denied.
