| Tuesday, July 11: winds SW 10-15 knots
..  Early in the morning, I departed my anchorage in Little Harbour. Fish sheds were barely visible in thick fog. Rather than sail around the exposed headland, I rowed through the rocky and shallow archipelago connecting Little Harbour and the Ship Harbour approaches. Although visibility was nil, the sea was flat and safe to row upon. I enjoyed pottering between the small islands and rocks. Pushing the centreboard right down, I used it as a depth sounder. The centreboard scraped and began to kick up whenever the water became shallow. Hauling Naomi onto a sandy beach, I hiked to stretch my legs. ..   As I left Cuckold Island, the fog bank ended and the light tower on Owls Head emerged above the spreaders. With both sails raised, Naomi surged ahead into warm sunshine and clear skies. Quickly, she passed between Cable Island and Wolfes Island and crossed Ship Harbour approaches. ..  Ahead lay a medley of small tree-covered islands and low rocks linking Murphy’s Point on the mainland and Borgles Island. While coasting along Ship Rock, (Shag Rock on the chart), I returned the stares of several harbour seals who lounged in the passage. ..  Entering Shoal Bay, I swung Naomi to port and docked at the Owens Point wharf (above). There is a small campground there with a pay phone by the office. I waited for 1300 to call Gail at her workplace. In the meantime, I lazed on the wharf and gabbed with the owner of the campground and some local fishermen. After talking with Gail, I sailed across Pleasant
Bay. The upper channel to Tangier Bay is twisty, so I lowered the
sails and rowed through it to Tangier Bay. By early afternoon, I
arrived in Shelter Cove, my destination for the night.
