Ed Weber (left) from Detroit, Dick Tyrrell from London,
England, and Dick Harrington from Cleveland, Ohio, along with Uncle Al
(behind
the camera) from Oakville, Ontario were the foursome who made up this
year's Wayfarer cruise in the North Channel north of Manitoulin Island.
Dick H. and Uncle Al had met Dick T. at the airport in Toronto on Friday
afternoon and spent a quiet afternoon at Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club
before Dick and Dick spent Friday night as guests of John and Joan Goldi
(W1320) in Mississauga.
The Ed Weber taxi service pulled into Oakville about 0830 on Saturday
to pick up Uncle Al. Early clouds gave way to lovely sunshine as we got
north of Toronto, and by the time the boats were launched in mid-afternoon
at Killarney, the skies were blue (above).

The traditional superb fish and chips were enjoyed by all of us
at Herbert's in Killarney right beside the tiny harbour.

W4105 (left) is Ed's glass Mark II which has less storage
space than W887, Dick's woodie.
As you can see, the road into Killarney leads right to the tiny harbour.

By the time we left Killarney (around supper time), a fairly brisk
SW lake breeze had mellowed out. After beating out of Killarney Channel,
Ed and I hove to just south of Sheep Island, wondering what horrible fate
might have befallen Dick & Dick who had been about to cast off as we
left the harbour. A good 30 minutes later, D & D finally poked their
nose out of the channel and we learned that they had decided to phone their
ladies to give a progress report. In about 8 knots of SW breeze, we enjoyed
a lovely evening run into Tim France's cove at the mouth of Covered Portage.

Beautifully lit up by the lowering sun, W887 nears the entrance

Looking good - but even here, you can tell that the bow compartment
is well packed with weighty gear.

The Cleveland Gondolier, Dick Harrington, demonstrates the versatility
of his oars as he finishes his harbour entry in style.
