INTERNATIONAL
BRITTANY RALLY 2009
Paimpol, France * Sunday 2nd to Sunday 9th of August THE CAMPSITE: We will stay at the Camping Panorama du Rohou, about 5 km north of Paimpol. www.campingpanorama.com . Tel: Mr Quintin: 0033 296 558 722, or in France: 02 96 55 87 22. My mobile phone is: 0033 677 953 112, or 06 77 95 31 12 in France. When you arrive in Paimpol follow the sign " Ile de Bréhat " as the camp site is just above the place where passsenger boats leave for the island. You will go through the town of Ploubazlanec, and then reach la Pointe de l'Arcouest. The campsite is signposted on the right when you arrive. We have a field all to ourselves, on the left, just before the entrance to the camp site, with a pretty view on Bréhat! We will be able to park the trailers and trolleys there as well, probably stacked together in order not to use too much space. We have reserved 2 bungalows and one chalet, those in camper vans will stay next to the two bungalows. WHERE TO LAUNCH THE BOATS: The best place to launch our Wayfarers is in the harbour of LEZARDRIEUX, a town 5 km west of Paimpol along the Trieux river. The marina has two slips, one along the yacht club restaurant, and one in the basin of the port with locks. High tide on Sunday 2nd is at 17.47 and it is possible to launch from 15.45 to 19.00. It is possible to launch at any time before this at the slip of the inner harbour, but we have to wait till 15.45 to go through the lock, and from there we will sail down the river for half a mile to reach the Centre Nautique du Trieux on the east side of the river, where we will moor our boats. The sailing school is partially hidden by woods along a small beach. François, the manager of the sailing school, will prepare us a 10 boat mooring line in the deeper part of the river, with another line on the beach. A few boats could stay on their own mooring if they have a secure anchoring system. I will provide a big inflatable tender to help us get to the moored boats. To make the organisation easier you will find one of us at each of the following places: the camp site; the launching place in Lezardieux; and the Sailing School. It should work OK… THE SAILING SCHOOL: The name is Centre Nautique du Trieux (CNT) , and the name of the site COZ CASTEL. From the Campsite you go back to PLOUBAZLANEC, then turn right in the direction of LOGUIVY and after 2 km, at a cross roads, you turn right to LOGUIVY again, then after 1.5 km, turn left, and follow the blue sign - Base Nautique de Coz Castel. After 0.5 km turn left to Coz Castel, and after another 0.5 km, at a place with a little light house and birds, turn right. In the wood, turn left in the direction of école de voile Française. Bravo! You will have done it. With a bit of luck and organisation we should be back for dinner! PLANNING FOR THE WEEK: Daysailing around Bréhat following the tide and the weather of each day. I suggest a briefing at 9 a.m. at the camp site every morning to despatch everybody on each boat and to explain the plan of the day according to the weather forecast, with a departure at 10 a.m. from the river. Sailing this area is a little bit tricky with strong currents and big tides so each boat does need a proper chart of the area. The French waterproof one (SHOM CARTE SPECIAL P 7127P) costs 21 Euros and I can get it for you if you tell the organiser for each country you would like one. I will print a tide table for each boat with the time of High Water, and its height for each day. We may need to anchor somewhere for lunch, so a good holding anchor, chain and line is recommended (those without are likely to be able to tie off to another boat who has), together with a smaller kedge anchor for situations where the boats may dry out (on sand or soft ground) at high tide. THE EVENT: We will take part in the Chant de Marin Festival on Friday night in Paimpol, where we are special guests, and have been invited by the organiser for an apéritif and light dinner at the Yacht Club of Paimpol. It is the main festival of the région, with thousands people attending and hundreds of old wooden boats. We will need to go through the locks at 8.30 pm and for those confident they can handle their boat in a confined situation (eg. are used to negotiating other boats at the start of a race for example), we will make our way under sail in the inner harbour - a proper International Wayfarer show! (Please stay at the rear, and motor, row, or paddle for those who are less experienced sailors - it would be a pity for the show of Wayfarer sailing to be marred by boats crashing into either each other or any moored boat)! The boats will stay in the harbour for the night and we will pick them up in the morning. It is possible to take the trailers to retrieve the boats in Paimpol early on Saturday morning, or if you would prefer, it is possible to sail back to Coz Castel on Saturday, and retrieve the boats in Lezardieux between 09.00 and 12.00 on Sunday. DINNER OUT ON WENESDAY 5 AUGUST: I have reserved a restaurant Au Grand Large for us on Wenesday evening in the Little Harbour of Loguivy, which overlooks the harbour. The cost of the dinner is 17 Euros, with apéritif included, and 9 Euros for a bottle of White or Red wine or a bottle of Cider. The lady owner needs to know in advance the exact number of people attending and their choice from the menu, in order to make preparing the meal easier. It will be helpful if I could know who would like to join the group for the meal and what they have chosen, on the menu below when people arrive on Sunday, so that I can pass this information on to the restaurant. That's all for the moment, best wishes to all of you. Gilles + Jill Name(s):______________________________________________________ Please tick dish(es) required MENU
